Bio
Since 1991, Melbourne underground noise band Psych Carni have tortured audiences with confrontational gigs of “mechano-eroticism”.
Long before the Burlesque revival and pre the “Antichrist Superstar”, the bands “necro-psychedellic carnival” shows assaulted punters with highly theatrical shock antics.
Recordings of the band were never commercially released, except the track “Bones” which appeared on a compilation of Australian Darkwave Acts titled “Dark and Starry Eyed They Were” (Heartland Records 1995).
Years of self abuse saw the band disintegrate in the late 90’s. Offshoot duo “Psych Carnage” moved to Europe, playing at punk squats in Poland. Other members became immersed in the growing Electronic and Drum and Bass scenes.
In 2005 the band reformed for the “Teknikunst Festival” playing at the Ding Dong Lounge with David Thrussell of Snog.
Fetishizing cyberpunk technology and military discipline the band recorded the “Scanner Decay” EP in 2009.
Subsequent tours followed for the Under The Blue Moon Festival (Sydney) and The Dead Of Winter Festival (Brisbane).
Psych Carni won an NME “Very Best” for the Shockwaves Video Awards U.K and were featured in Mick Mercer’s book “Music to Die For” (Cherry Red UK).
Due to artistic demands, founding member REM now resides in Tokyo.
An industrial dubstep/EBM album is currently in production, with plans for an overseas tour in 2012.
